The incident happened on Wednesday morning, September 10.
The deceased, Tope Kadiri on Tuesday, a
day before he was killedhad a face-off with a woman sharing the same
fence with the church building, according to Punch.
Tope Kadiri was said to have asked the
woman not to throw dirty water from her washing bowl into the church but
she refused, he was said to have pulled down some of their clothes
spread on the cloth line, which started the fight.
The woman’s children were defended their mother as they escalated the issue.
A resident in the area, who pleaded
anonymity, said: “The fight was settled amicably by the community
leaders and both sides agreed to a truce.
“However, on Wednesday morning, a group
of boys living in the woman’s house who were away when the incident
happened decided to revisit it. They attacked Kadri and that was how
confusion started.
“He was gagged and stabbed in the chest till he died.”
Following the death of the 22-year-old
boy, his friends launched a revenge attack on friends of his alleged
killers but for the intervention of the Oworonshoki Police Division
which restored normalcy in the area, it was have ended badly.
Adesegha said: “The boy that died was just on a visit to his parents who were staying in the church.”
Adesegha told Punch that the church had also been attacked on the night prior to the killing of Tope Kadiri.
He said efforts to stop their neighbours
who they share a low fence with from throwing water into the Church
compound has proved abortive.
It was learnt that the corpse of the
late Kadiri had been deposited at the mortuary, while three suspects had
already been arrested.
This wickedness in d highest order, young promising boy cut short just like that, well God know why, may his gentle soul rest in peace. Police take note Fr E
