Maigari Returns As NFF President

ormer President of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Aminu Maigari has been reinstated as the president of the football house, Supersport reports.

This comes as the world football governing body, FIFA, on Wednesday, 3 September, 2014, threatened to suspend Nigeria from all its football related activities if “the NFF executive committee is not returned as it was on 25 August 2014″.

According to the letter sent by FIFA, under the presidency Maigari: “The NFF should then convene a first extraordinary general assembly as soon as possible to elect the members of the electoral committees and a second extraordinary general assembly in order to proceed with the elections of the new NFF office-bearers.”

It was gathered that the NFF has however complied to the directive as it restored Maigari and his board in Abuja moments ago.

The Maigari-led executive committee is now saddled with the responsibility of convening two general assembly meetings “in order to proceed with the elections of the new NFF office-bearers,” as directed by Fifa.

It was gathered that the NFF executive committee of Maigari has fixed September 25 as a tentative date for the elective congress.

The proposed elective congress is rumoured to be held in Abuja.

The tentative date for the elective congress, it was learned, is in compliance with FIFA’s directive to ensure that “in the shortest time possible allowed by law to proceed with the elections of new NFF office-bearers.”

This moves might be connected to earlier report that the Committee of Sports of the House of Representative met with some members of the NFF on Wednesday’s night in other to avert FIFA’s threat of suspending the country.

As at the time of compiling this report, FIFA is yet to make a statement over the new development.
