There
is a hovering feeling of fear in Gombi, Adamawa State, because of the
presence of over 30 bombs that were dumped in the area by the Nigerian
Air Force.
It is believed that the bombs which were dumped there three days ago
had expired and are inactive, however, residents are apprehensive about
its presence in their town.
The area was initially surrounded by soldiers and vigilante members
out of fear that the insurgents could take control and ownership of the
bombs bbut they later pull out of the area after being informed that the
bombs were inactive.
However, indigenes of the community are not totally convinced that
the bombs have expired, with many nursing the fear that they may go off
any time.
An indigene said: “As we are talking, we are still agitated because
we are not convinced by the explanation that the bombs are useless and
would not be taken away by the Boko Haram for other missions.”
“When the items were discovered, the soldiers and our vigilante
members were called in but the soldiers left when the Air Force
explained that the bombs were expired and useless.”
“But the vigilante members have refused to relax their watch over the
area because they feel the Boko Haram people could steal and use them
against us. We are also of the opinion that the bombs could go off.”
