For
a minute, we were wondering if we should be impressed that the Nigerian
Army is trying senior officers… but that’s now out the door, at least
indefinitely.
The general court martial of senior military officer, which had been
shifted thrice, commenced behind closed doors on Monday, March 9, at the
Officers Mess of the 9th Brigade Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos.
Journalists were barred from gaining entrance into the venue of
proceedings which for whatever reason, didn’t exactly go ahead as
expected.
The case of the highest ranking officer on trial, Brig. Gen. J.O.
Komolafe, was postponed adjourned sine dine (in lay man’s terms
‘indefinitely’).
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Femi Falana, who is representing
the General, revealed to journalists that: “The case of my client, Brig.
Gen. Akomolafe, was adjourned sine die. Others pleaded not guilty. Case
was adjourned till Wednesday and Thursday this week.”
Meanwhile, all the others on trial pleaded not guilty.
They were accused of cowardly behaviour, failure to perform military
duty, negligent performance of military duties and other offences
relating to service property, and other crimes.
